The Frozen Tundra has become just that! Frozen Tundra! Within the last 24 hours Mother Nature has dropped about 8 inches of snow on us! Break out the shovels and snowplows! Winter is back!
We heard some interesting news out of Green Bay! The Packers are paying $10.00 per hour to people who are willing to shovel the field in preparation for the big game that is coming up this weekend! They have over 400 shoveling jobs available. Those of us who are Packer fans are getting amped up for another big day at Lambeau Field! There is a lot riding on this game so most of us will be paying close attention to that Packer defense. Hopefully, Rogers will carry us forward!
Today, we all went over to the middle school in the afternoon to support our classroom finalists in the district-wide spelling bee. Our elementary school students fared well in competition against 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. The words were very challenging and we had competitors participating right up to about the last 5 contestants.
Earlier in the day, Room 8 students participated in a distance learning program about the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, presented by historical archivists in Fort Worth, Texas who were using primary sources and photographs from the National Archives. The photographs showed what life was like in many places in the American south when King and other African-American people there faced discrimination and segregation.
In science we are studying microworlds, parts of our environment that can be observed with magnifying devices like magnifying glasses and microscopes. We are learning about microbes that are all around and are too small to see without magnification. We're learning about the properties of magnifiers and light. We are wondering if there are certain waterborne diseases that people can get in the Australian Outback. Do people in Australia ever worry about shortages of clean drinking water? What are Australians doing to protect their natural resources like water, ocean reefs, and other habitats for living things?
We hope you have a great weekend! We sure wish we could be enjoying some of that great Australian sunshine right about now! Go Packers! On to the Super Bowl!
